This year my brother Faiz and elder sister Lina didn't come home for Raya since they're spending the holidays with their respective in laws. That said, our Hari Raya this year is still happening and gay with all my uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces coming back home to Pasir Mas. After the customary get together at grandma's place, my siblings and I would have another Raya tradition to conform with - seeing my dad. Usually we would me at a restaurant somewhere between Pasir Mas or Kota Bharu since my dad are not exactly welcomed here in Pasir Mas and we also don't really feel like going to his place meeting our stepmother. It's a long and complicated story, you probably don't want to know.

Anyway, this year my dad cordially invited us siblings to his place in Pasir Pekan regardless of how we and our mother felt towards the person living there. He and the missus were holding an open house or something and they would like us to come there for a change. Actually I have no problem going there, meeting her for the first time. My mom, grandma and sister however didn't feel the same. So in the end we met somewhere by the roadside in Wakaf Bharu since we couldn't find any open restaurant this first Hari Raya and all. It was awkward and I felt sorry it has to go on like this. I wish we could move on and let bygones be bygones. But for some people, the cut runs deep, very-very deep.

So I got my first paycheck today. I was a little bit concerned that I might only get this 3 days before the end of the month like everybody else here but thankfully my fears were allayed when I received this crisp & beautiful check with my name written on it this morning. Actually a lot of things that worries me somehow about this new job disappeared when I got this check. It all seems worth it now.

Before today I've planned of doing a lot of things with my first pay. I'm going to treat my wife, my kids and my mom for dinner. Not forgetting some of my closest friends from workplace past. And then I'm going to buy myself some nice new clothes for work (not Hari Raya okay). I badly needed to add more options to my sorry wardrobe collection. The thing is my check should only be cleared on Monday. By that time we would be in Pasir Mas preparing for Raya. Shopping and treating my loved ones will have to wait then. Thank you Allah nevertheless.

This Hari Raya season we didn't get much open house invites, surprisingly, unlike last year when we couldn't even cope with the overwhelming invitations. Today my company had our own Raya open house at the boss' place.

Although nearly a quarter of the staff were absent, that didn't damper the mood of the occasion. There were lots of food and everybody looks forward to the hampers lucky draw. I didn't give much hope to that because I'm like the most unluckiest person in the whole world when it comes to lucky draws and stuff. But today though is my lucky day because I won the biggest hamper in the house. I'm sure that won't likely repeat again in the future. It's like one in a millionth thing. Next time I win something like this is when an asteroid hits the earth.

So this is it, balik kampung time. I slept early today and woke up around 2:30 AM albeit from a very disturbed sleep. Around 3:30 PM we left Seri Kembangan for Kelantan. The road was clear until we reached the Gombak toll where the nightmare begun. I swear I heard the toll is going to be free today but that didn't happen. From Gombak we where stuck in a huge and long crawl for most of the journey to Bentong. Along the way, we experienced a few more horrible traffic jam the worst being near Lipis and Kuala Krai. We didn't arrive in Tanah Merah until 2:30 PM, that's 11 hours later.

My body aches all over especially my poor knees. Had we had a choice, we wouldn't have chosen to go back today. Travelling home less than 36 hours before Raya is suicidal.

After a short nap in Tanah Merah, we finally arrived in sweet old Pasir Mas around 6:00 o'clock. I paid my tithe at the town mosque first of course. I had percik and roasted chicken for fast breaking today, the best I had this year. It's good to be back again with my family and relatives.

Today we went to the tailor's to cut our baju Melayu dress for the upcoming Hari Raya. Yes I know, Raya is like 2 month away but it's never to early to do these things. Come Puasa, some of these tailors might not even accept new orders because they are fully booked.

We surveyed a few tailors from Sentul to Serdang before deciding to cut our dress at Aden Tailoring right here in Serdang. They offer a real affordable price, RM80.00 for adults and RM65.00 for kids about Adam's age (5 years old). Of course we already bought our own fabric from Nilai 3 before. Some tailors ask from RM90.00 to RM100.00 for both adults and kids which are clearly cutthroat prices. Visit Aden's Tailor at No 37G, Jalan 18/34 Serdang (in front of Padang) or call 019-3591617.
