It's been 1 year and 3 months since Adam first sat for his computerized driving test. Between that and last week, he went to a dozen driving classes and failed his driving test twice at the Unisex Driving Academy near Nilai. The worse part was, he failed the parking test and not the on the road test where a lot of people understandably fail. Overconfident? Nervous? Only Adam knows.
Why Nilai you ask? It's the cheapest driving academy with the shortest waiting time we could find. All in all, it costs us only RM1,400 for a manual driving license. Others, especially in Selangor cost almost 2 thousand ringgit and months of waiting time.
Since we've spent so much money on his driving academy, we steeled ourselves, ignored the sunken cost fallacy and sent Adam to another driving academy to resit for another test. This one in remote Kuala Kubu Bharu, some 97 kilometers away, costs another 380 ringgit. This time I'm only willing to pay half of the fee and Adam will need to fork out his own savings. We've heard a lot of good things about P.S Samy driving academy. About how easy it is for students to pass their driving test, no matter how bad they did, and legally too.
That said, we were still nervous on the day of the test. We got out early from Semenyih that day, around 6:15 AM and got there to KKB just before 8 o'clock, on a Wednesday. We were truly relieved to hear that Adam finally passed his driving test. He can now drive our car legally around town.
Adam is one of the smartest kid we know but that doesn't mean he won't flunk real world challenges like a driving test. There's so many factor at play. If this happens to your own kid, give your best support and understanding. They will need to get that driving test anyway, despite the setbacks. You will enjoy the fruits of your labour later when your kids drive you around town (and the country) while you sit back and relax on the passenger seat.
